CASANZ Executive Committee
2008-10


CASANZ  is  the  largest  peak  representative  body  for  air quality  and  environmental management in Australia and New Zealand.  This is a great opportunity to participate with your colleagues in the future strategic planning of the Clean Air Society and also to become involved in all aspects of the critical issues currently affecting air quality and the environment across Australia and New Zealand. 

Nominations are requested from members for the following four positions on the Executive Committee of the Clean Air Society.  The positions are:

  • Society President
  • Society Deputy-President
  • Society Treasurer
  • Society Secretary

CASANZ Training Courses

 Ambient Air Quality Monitoring course
25-27 August, 2008,
Perth 

 This CASANZ course provides basic training aimed at developing skills in ambient air quality monitoring. The course covers measurement technologies for particulates and gases, units, gas flow, uncertainty, quality assurance, calibration, monitoring networks, meteorological measurements, site selection, integrated systems ozone, open path monitoring, suspended particulates and heavy metals, VOCs by USEPA methods and odour measurement.

Ambient Air Monitoring Standards course
28-29 August, 2008, Perth

This two day CASANZ course covers the technical details of ambient air quality monitoring, and the application of the associated Australian Standards, not covered in the "Ambient Air Quality Monitoring" course. This course includes an overview of ANZ, ISO, USEPA, BS, and other standards for meteorological, particulate, gaseous and related sampling.

Health risks associated with using
unflued gas heaters in your home

Studies undertaken over recent years have shown that unflued gas heaters may be a source of toxic gases.  The Clean Air Society has published reports regarding the health risks associated with unflued gas heaters, especially to the young, the sick and the elderly.  A monograph on the health effects of unflued gas heater use in Australia has been released by the Environmental Health Committee (enHealth), Australian Health Protection Committee, Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. Clean Air Society of Australia and New Zealand (CASANZ), a nongovernmental, nonprofit organization first formed in the late 1960's to bring together people with an interest in clean air and the mechanics of air pollution. Its focus is now expanded to encompass broader environmental management affairs, but with particular reference to air quality and related issues.
