RECENT EVENTS

The new Branch Committee for 2006/08 was recently elected with the following Officer Bearers taking over their new roles in October, 2006.

President:  Judith Bradsen
Deputy President:    Tom Whitworth
Secretary:  Phil Morgan
Treasurer:  Rodney May

Committee members:

Neil Clark Barry Severne      Ros De Garis*
Len Turczynowicz     Frank Callaghan   Tawni Buckingham
*TAE representative

However, there are still three (2) Committee Member vacancies to be filled. Branch members are encouraged to put their names forward to be Committee Members, as the Committee needs to be representative of the Branch membership’s interests. The workload is not onerous – about eight (8) Committee meetings are held each year, often on the same evening as a Technical Meeting and at its venue, and occasionally on other days at the offices of the EPA.

Branch Annual Achievement Awards 2006

Branch President Judith Bradsen presented the Awards.

A Branch Clean Air Achievement Award was presented to Carter Holt Harvey Wood Panels, Mount Gambier.  The award recognised the significant improvement to air quality achieved by the installation of wet electrostatic precipitators on the woodchip dryers, and the efforts of Rob Adams, the CHH Site Manager, in persuading the company of the benefits in terms of community goodwill as well as air quality.  Phil Widdison received the award on behalf of Carter Holt Harvey.

A Branch Clean Air Achievement Award was presented Adelaide Brighton Limited, Adelaide.  The award recognised the contribution to improving the understanding of the health effects of air pollution on the community through the development of a model of the company's operations and emissions to assess their implications for community exposure to emissions.  The model has enabled the company to predict the changes in emissions from the use of different fuels.  Joseph Mazzone received the Award on behalf of Adelaide Brighton Limited.

Phil Widdison and Joseph Mazzone each gave a brief response thanking the Society for the Awards.
