The CASANZ Victoria/Tasmania Branch committee is holding its end of year event to recognise excellence in our industry. Reflections on the Hazelwood coal mine fire prosecution case
Guest Speaker Dr. David Neal Senior Council of the Victorian Bar Council
The Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) laid charges against four companies for air pollution offences from smoke impacts generated during the 2014 Hazelwood coal mine fire that lasted over 45-days. Dr. Neal led the EPA prosecution case during an eight-week trial in the Supreme Court of Victoria against the operator of the power station. The mine operator was found guilty of the air pollution offences and sentenced to fines of $380,000. David will speak about his experience and reflections of the prosecution case.
Discussions will also include reflections from expert scientific witnesses who provided evidence:
John Innis (EPA TAS)
